In 2000, there were only three organizations providing caregiver services in the Greater Portland area. In 2010, there are over a dozen, HomePartners being one of them. When it comes to finding the right caregiver service for your loved one, it is important to look for a knowledgeable, experienced staff, and the personalized attention your loved one needs.

HomePartners, LLC was founded ten years ago by Julie Vickers, and embodies both of these characteristics. Vickers is a registered nurse, certified case manager and geriatric care manager. Blue Goose sat down with her to learn about her company and her passion.

“We are a relationship-based organization,” explained Vickers. “We specialize in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, but really cover the entire spectrum from companionship to light personal care to senior advocacy.”

HomePartners prides itself in being a small organization. Some of the larger organizations are not able to provide the level of personal care and attention that the caregivers at HomePartners do. They focus on building long-lasting relationships with their clients because personal experience has showed them just how valuable that relationship can be. Julie remembers the challenges she and her family faced when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. “You don’t realize how valuable a caregiver’s services are until you really need them.” This unique perspective gives her the ability to be sensitive to everyone’s needs.

There is a rigorous process to match caregivers and seniors. HomePartners looks at everything from likes and dislikes, to personality traits and the specific needs of the senior. They do everything possible to make sure that the caregiver is a right fit for the senior and the family.

When coordinating services for a client, HomePartners meets with all parties involved; the family, the senior, facilities, doctors, and identifies the situation fully to develop a plan for the client’s care.

“We are the eyes and ears for the family,” said Vickers explaining one of the many valuable characteristics of their service. “We provide companionship and a watchful eye to make sure our clients are safe and healthy.”
